Before you prepare your photo

Check the State Department's paper-photo requirements. Use a recent, clear photo with even lighting and a plain white or off-white background. Do not remove or replace the background, retouch your appearance, use filters, or use AI enhancement. If unsuitable, fix the lighting and background and retake the photo.

For paper applications (in person or by mail), use the State Department photo cropper to size and crop your photo. It expressly excludes online renewal. Download the cropped square, then return to PassportGrid.

PassportGrid only resizes the square proportionally and arranges six copies for printing; it does not check compliance or guarantee acceptance. This independent tool is not government-affiliated. It accepts JPG/PNG up to 3 MB (3,145,728 bytes), including the limit. These are this tool's restrictions, not government rules.

Simply cut out your 2x2 photo from the 4x6. You'll have a few extra 2x2 squares that you can use as backups if you need them.

Can I print my passport photos at home?

Why do I need to use a 4x6 print?

The JPG is 1800×1200 pixels: three 600×600 squares across and two down. Printed on a full 4x6-inch sheet without cropping or scaling, each square measures 2x2 inches. Check the printed measurements; the layout cannot validate your photo or your printer settings.
